| Harold's description from the book "Clivias" about
'Jean Delphine':
"This is among the most distinctive of the Conway clivias with unusually rich, dark, brownish orange-red flowers. The florets are quite narrow with a natural spread of less than 2 inches (5 cm). The petals are 3/4 inch (2 cm) wide. Rather curiously, the sepals are very much shorter than the petals, but unfortunately I did not measure them. It is among the deepest brown florets available in clivias. Florets also have a concideralbe amount of emerald green in the throat, and the brown color presumably reflects a background of chlorophyll under the orange-red of the tepals. Umbels tend to be a little irregular in presentation, but one is willing to forgive this considering the very rare color. The plant carries leaves that maesure 21 inches (52.5 cm) in length and 2 inches (5 cm) in width. 'Sabrine Delphine', another of the Conway selections, is similiar." |
